Revenue attributed to ads is useful information. It is only one part of the economics.
Consider an illustrative campaign with $750 in media spend and $3,000 in attributed net revenue. Its revenue ROAS is 4x. If those orders leave a 40% contribution margin before advertising, they produce $1,200 before media and $450 after media.
Add the costs the dashboard does not show
If production and licensing cost another $500 allocated to this campaign, the result is now negative $50 before fixed overhead. The 4x figure did not change. The economics did because the first calculation omitted costs.
This does not prove the campaign should stop. Reusable creative, repeat purchases or later improvements may change future economics. Those possibilities need evidence and a defined evaluation period. They should not be silently included as if they already happened.
Know which customer you acquired
If the campaign generated 30 purchases, media purchase CPA is $25. If only 20 buyers were new customers, media CAC is $37.50. Returning customers can be valuable, but they answer a different question from new-customer acquisition. Keep both numbers visible.
Also reconcile refunds and duplicate attribution. Multiple platforms may claim the same sale. A sum of platform revenue can exceed the actual store revenue without creating any extra cash.
Define the decision before changing budget
Use contribution, the loss ceiling, conversion lag and the quality of the evidence. Pause operational failures immediately. For a functioning campaign with a small sample, the right conclusion may be inconclusive. When outcomes repeat profitably, test a measured increase and watch the marginal cost of the additional demand.
A larger budget can change who you reach and the price you pay. Scaling therefore needs another review, not simply an assumption that the earlier average will continue.
